Exceptional Children’s Week is an annual event celebrating children and youth with exceptionalities and the professionals who serve them. This week is sponsored by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the world’s largest membership organization for special and gifted teachers, teacher/educators and preservice teachers.

Especially for Educators
Even the best trained special educator may not have experience handling bullying behaviors. The good news is that rates of bullying behavior, while garnering a lot of media attention, have not significantly increased in recent years. The bad news is that too many children, especially those with disabilities, are bullied each day.
In keeping with our mission, we will focus this Exceptional Children’s Week on improving the lives of children and youth with exceptionalities with resources from anti-bullying experts especially for CEC members working with students who are exhibiting bullying behavior, as well as those who are being bullied.
CEC members Tim Lewis and Chad Rose of the
University of Missouri produced a anti-bullying guide for our members, Addressing Bullying Behavior through School-Wide Positive Behavior Support, which includes a list of resources and a School-Wide PBIS
Bully Prevention/Intervention Action Plan. A tutorial podcast is also
available for the action plan.
